Genaro Rafael Bio
Born: 21 August 1974. Barranquilla, Colombia
Education: Pratt Institute Genaro Rafael is a Colombian visual artist, painter working out of New York City. Genaro has drawn since the age six years old and was recognized at an early age to have an eye for the arts. It became a calling for him and a large part of his formal education. Genaro eventually came to the US and was trained at Brooklyn’s Pratt Institute. He has won multiple awards and his works were displayed at school exhibits and murals though out NYC. During his early career he went on to be work as a freelance graphic designer in commercial art. Throughout painting and art was a constant in his life and this quest for self-expression kept him producing paintings. Genaro’s art is known to be a vibrant aesthetic with surreal interpretations of the subjects. The work focuses on nature and the organic vegetation are brought to life by the intricate details and layering of color. The eyes of the people portrayed are individuals from his environment. By the process of photo document of moments and things, he recreates and reassembles a visual to form a collage of images on canvas. His use of acrylics and oils on canvas bring to life a Dali inspired world.
